From oil dependence to local resilience

The energy that we must also place our focus on is spiritual energy ….an energy we will want to draw on more and more, as our communities experience transition.
It has been stated that crises precede transformation
Our concerns over peak oil and our focus on the impact we have on global warming have enabled us to begin to respond consciously to all our environments. Like peak oil concerns, the current degeneration of the economic structures that support our western economies will in time present an opportunity for eventual transformation in our financial systems.
I am very interested in gathering ‘the kindling’ to spark a flame that can sustain communities through times of transition. Some will retain or revisit traditional religious frameworks (both eastern and western) but many may desire to access and co-create a ‘faith’ in the future that moves beyond the cynicism and scepticism of post-modern culture to a post-postmodern view that embraces both spirit and world that both helps make sense of and empowers a new consciousness.
History shows us that as civilisations over-populate and run out of resources they engage in activities to help re-energise their communities. Colonisation was/is an effective – if a corrupt, practice of re- energising. At this time in humanity’s history we are aware of the invitation to understand the ‘both/and’ of conservation and the innovation of new technologies to enhance the life of the whole on planet earth and beyond.
The energy we’ll need for the future can be sustained if we dare to explore new 21stcentury spiritual perspectives that build on a foundation of wisdom from the past but also glimpse something new about to emerge.

Hi Linda
I like what you have written. Peak oil panic is just a symptom. The disease is one of belief malfunction. Holes appearing in our beloved capitalism and consumer choice. The question is what is beyond transition town. Transformation of self? A reincarnation of community from the bones of our dead colony. BTW the colon is important in the transformation process. We will need to have courage to face our smelly past while dreaming of tomorrow. God will become the next upward trend during uncertain times and volatile markets. Speculation on God stocks could reap good financial profits while forecasting new prophets.

Just me.
