From oil dependence to local resilience

I just stumbled on the 350.org website (thanks Ruth !).

The message is simple: 350 ppm CO2 is the maximum our world can take without going into a hot overdrive. 350 should be our goal and our unnegotiable demand to the Climate Conference at the end of this year.

The 350 initiative is apparently rapidly growing around the world. They focus on a Climate Action day on 24 October where every community should speak with one voice: "350 is our goal, and not one ppm more".

We're currently at 385 ppm and rapidly rising, so we'll need bold action.
There are many Climate action initiatives on the web, but this one strikes me in it's simplicity and boldness. The concept is easy to understand for everyone and could ignite a community into action.

Let's take 350 to our hearts !

Hi Geert,

Yes, what might be possible if we all came together?
The NZ 350 site has now been launched as well: www.350.org.nz

We are having a meet up in Auckland next Thursday the 9th 5:30-7pm in the City, and there are some regional 'coordinators' on the website people can be in contact with once the have registered their actions. No one up yet in Kerikeri.

What might be possible in calling a group together to watch the video, and imagining what is possible?

To get a bigger picture of the context our actions fit in and connect with, you can see Bill McKibben, who co-founded 350, talking in Dunedin (he did a tour here in April) at the video on Vimeo.
