New Zealand Transition Initiatives Social Network

From oil dependence to local resilience

This is a topic related to Transition.

You might have noticed that Neighbourhood Support Groups are having a problem.  Funding was cut a few years ago, although the people on the ground tell me they saw none of that anyway.  I've worked as a market researcher.  One of the questions often asked in Justice/Police surveys is "Are you involved with Neighbourhood Support?"  The typical answer is; "There used to be a group around here, but I don't think it's functioning now."

Doing something online is a new possibility. I know that it works, that running the group is quite easy, but that setting it up is VERY hard.

Street Groups can be used to spawn Neighbourhood Support Groups, and if there are strong Neighbourhood Support Groups running (There are some amazing ones.) creating a Street Group might be a way to extend the influence.

Here's what I'm currently attempting in Christchurch.
