Bamboo frames

Bamboo is one of those materials that is underused and misunderstood in the Western world. I have not tried this yet mainly because my steel frame track bike is doing so well and may well outlive me.

I saw a howto on Instructables where they used a mix of carbon fiber and bamboo to create a very beautiful frame (the image below is not from there).

I don't suppose the knowledge is there yet to build these frames for off road use. The main issue is having enough local people who are skilled enough to be able to guarantee that their bamboo is cured well enough to be able to easily handle these stresses.
I know that this is not a new technology and that bamboo frames have been made over 100 years ago but it is best to know things have been done right when tearing down Parnel rise at full speed.
