Great idea Adele. If you (we?) get a good directory going maybe we can set up a time bank to go with it?!

are there any other people in the Beckenham/Somerfield or nearby areas? Two of us are looking at setting up a local group with a swap meet as our first activity. Anyone else interested please contact me, thanks

Hi Everyone,

Just throwing a line out there - I am currently the Convenor of the Lincoln Planning Review, a journal on local planning issues produced by students at Lincoln University

Check this link here

Wanting to include an article on the progression of the Transition Initiative in Christchurch but we're stuck for an author - some options have been presented (thank you Christoph) however I would like to throw this out to the TT Chch Community.

Let me know ASAP if you are interested and I can fill you in some more.

Cheers,

Bailey Peryman

Hello all. You may remember me as the American lady who has started bringing a map of St. Albans to the Transition Forums, with the intention of marking the map with your Transition ideas. The St.Albans Stream, which could provide a walking/cycling corridor someday, is a start, and is the latest feature to be marked. I've recently become very excited about the Jan Gehl Public Space Public Life Study for Christchurch Central City. You can find the entire 159 pages of the study on the Christchurch City Council website. In the section on recommendations, Colombo Street has been identified as the main traffic corridor," to be calmed and turned into a street for pedestrians, bicycles and public transport." Although St.Albans is not considered to be in the Christchurch central business district, it does have the northern end of Colombo Street. Christoph Hensch would like to see the intersection of Colombo and Edgeware Road turned into a single surface square with a tree and seating in the middle of what is now the street, as exists in many European centres. Great idea, but we can start thinking about transforming the rest of Colombo Street south to Bealey Avenue into a traffic corridor. The on-street curb parking has got to go! So how can we meet that goal? The residents could be approached, off-street car parking assessed, garages and sheds de-cluttered, carports built, etc. This could be a great community project. What do you say?

Sure, it would be great to meet and chat. St Albans is also a nice area, I agree, close to the city is good, as long as the environment is still peaceful and gorgeous - I'm very sensitive to noise! I'm probably going to check out a few more houses in those areas that are up for rent, although something tells me my home may be already out there and waiting? We'll see. I'm hopefully going to be teaching some permaculture classes in the St Albans community centre soon, so I will be in the area to meet with you. Your profile is very interesting, very active! Good one. Kowhai

Kia Ora Kowhai,
Interested in your vision for community living. I'm a founder of the Ecovillage and cohousing assocition (see www.converge.org.nz/evcnz), and have flirted with ideas for urban ecovillages and communities for some years. Have you considered St Albans or closer to the city? Perhaps we can chat at St Albans Com Centre some day about what suits/

Cheers

Looked at a place today in North Beach, it's not quite me but IT IS HUGE the grounds are anyway. It is up for rent, three bedrooms inside and a sleepout with office space outside. It's next to a monastery too and I understyand one can hear chanting now and then. The owner wants this place to be loved. There is a sand pit, huge outdoor space for veges, chickens in a spot down the back. Anyone interested should contact me and I'll give you the details. $450 a week , so $112 weekly each, although if you had a couple in a room then it would be even cheaper. Kids would have room to breathe here. I still have my heart set on a big villa surrounded by garden. Let me know if you see one up for rent, or if there is a room in a big house for me. Have a great week all! X Ko
