Here is a platform being developed by students to enable collective action in our communities.

It has had a positive response across the board, including with CCC who are considering its potential for broader application in conjunction with the Suburban Centres Programme.

Feel free to contact me or any one of the coordinators for more information.

Cheers

Thanks Rex for the links to the discussion on the Intersect Forum which I was not aware of.  There is in fact quite a bit happening, but still involving far too few people, so the more active groups there are the better.  It will take a year of more of active discussion and re-evaluation before we understand what's happened to our wealth.

The government and the insurance companies can give us some money, but that doesn't replace the lost wealth. Wealth isn't equivalent to cash.I've written about that here:

There are also twenty-five local neighbours forums in Christchurch which you an join. Find your nearest group here:

Hi Katie, there are several websites with on-line discussion, including http://www.reimaginechristchurch.org.nz/forums/105253-reimagine-chr... http://www.elevatedgardencity.com/ . And various fora, including the first of a series being hosted by Green MP Ken Graham (see http://www.greens.org.nz/events/public-meeting-visions-christchurch... ) and a TEDxEQChCh presentation on 21 May (see http://tedxeqchch.com). For me there's too much ungrounded flights of fancy happening and too much rebuild Chch for business-as-usual. I'm interested in meeting socially and talking about and promoting a future that mitigates and adapts to "peak everything", climate change, sea level rise, and mass migration, conflict and pandemic. :(  Cheers!

I have just encountered the chch rebuild petition set up by Lou of Lyttelton  and don't know if you have seen it, but if not, sign it here:

I really do believe that we should be meeting together and creating some sort of 'live' visioning of what we see, begin to put together some sort of alternative vision to present to the Govt.  Maybe 'greening chch' drinks to build momentum? Anyone got any ideas?

Hi Rachel

have you read "Collapse" by Jared Diamond? What did you think? Wondering if you 'd be up to writing a short review for this forum here and maybe for the CT News (http://ctnews.org.nz)?

John Adams Comment by John Adams on February 7, 2011 at 7:39pm
Hi Rachel - we're in Somerfield, is that close enough to Riccarton-Sockburn?  Happy to meet & encourage, and definitely no scoffing. Hopefully there will be a programme of events at Sustainable Otautahi Christchurch quite soon, so there should be places to go to meet like minded people.  Get in touch!
