New Zealand Transition Initiatives Social Network

From oil dependence to local resilience

Hi all,
someone suggested to me that this group be expanded from Canterbury to New Zealand-wide, for the sharing of ecovillage stories and issues for projects and interested people nation-wide. The CEN has not been used frequently - so I wonder if we should expand ourselves and invite ecovillage enthusiasts from elsewhere to this group (and rename this group in the process)? What do you think?

Excellent idea. The more the merrier. The group could always be split out again at some point in the future. - Sarah
Kia Ora,
Back in 2001 a nationwide organisation Cohousing and Ecovillage Association of Aotearoa/New Zealand was formed by three of us in Auckland. It still has a website at www.converge.org/evcnz and is both an information depository and a networking tool for existing ecovilages (mainly North island but also links to GEN ) and the one built cohousing project in Waitakere (Earthsong econeighbourhood-www.earthsong.org.nz ). It seems to have lapsed in terms of recent material but could easily be revived if necessary. I suggest you keep the nationwide site going but also network to it as regional discussion fora.

Who is in charge of www.converge.org/evcnz?
I THINK THIS IS A WONDERFUL IDEA TO EXPAND THE GROUP TO N.Z. WIDE.THE MORE INFO OUT THERE AND THE EASIER TO ACCESS IT THE BETTER.I HAVE JUST JOINED THE SITE AND WE ARE SO HAPPY AS WE CAN COMMUNICATE WITH OTHERS THAT FEEL THE SAME WAY.AND WANT FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE.AND WORKSHOP,HELP.SHARE INFO TO START ECO VILLAGES,PERMACULTURE,ECO BUILDING,HOMESTEADING ETC.WE ARE ALSO NOT VERY GOOD WITH COMPUTERS AND THIS SITE SO FAR HAS NOT SEEMED TO COMPLCATED ..

hi christof

I am new to this site, and yes, I am also suprised how little entrances we have here..would love to chat about eco villages/co-housing intitatives in canterbury and new zealand...there must be more people out there . Do they use different sites?
we just bought a property, relatively small but sweet, and will develope a co-housing community. Would love to hear from others who have done this before us or still working towards it. It is good to feel there are other enthusiasts out there and help each other.

Hi there,

I notice there have been no comments here since last year... anyone still out there? I'm interested in living in a semi-rural fairly self-sufficient community. How are you all going with your plans?

Katie

hi Katie where abouts would you like to live within nz? We have 3 acres of land, ready to be subdivided, and we are thinking of a sort of pocket neighbourhood intiative. with selfsufficiency in mind, and maybe some common land and sheds.

Keen to stay in touch, after the quakes , this here is a very stable land, close to town but rural feel, in a village sort of.

cheers franziska

We're in Chch, in Casebrook at the moment. Where is your 3 acres?

We live in Diamond Harbour, Banks Peninsula. Would you like to give me your email address and we keep in touch ,I am a bit reluctant to publish all details here.

cheers franziska
