From oil dependence to local resilience

Often we don't quite know what we are feeling until someone else expresses it clearly for us.  That's why we need many and diverse discussions about the earthquake.

 

For that purpose I've put a lot of work into creating twenty-five community based email forums across Christchurch. You can join you local forum here:

I've also been trying to think deeply about what Christchurch really needs. Slowly I'm coming to some conclusions. That's a task I really would like some help with.

I see there is a need to change the old Christchurch in fundamental ways. Much of the physical change will be quite easy I expect. It's the social changes we need to make that will really challenge us. Alvin Tofflers ideas might help.(See attached file)  We need to be much more proactive in deciding what our future will be, and that demands a new sort of democratic structure.
