I'm interested in discovering if anyone else has trialled growing and utilising 'sweet white lupins'.
Currently I'm into my 2nd year of a rudimentary trial. I tried 'direct drilling' , using a DIY device towed behind the lawn mower. Results were poor compared to the rotary hoed beds which produced consistent results, regarding plant height and pod size.
Of course harvesting and extracting the beans was the difficult part, and not without some pain owing to the sharp spine at the end of the pod.
I've read various stories about them describing the pros and cons. A possible down-side is some people can have an allergic reaction to them as with peanuts. But they can be an alternative for people with gluten intolerance. As the beans can be ground to a flour and made in pasta, bread etc.
I'm endeavouring to try this with my present crop as last years crop went back into the ground.
But if anyone has first hand experience, I'm keen to learn and possibly develop as another string to our bow.
