Buliding a team for a university of transition

We are seeking to gather a pioneer group (Regional Organising Group) of talented and competent people with relevant experience to form the core development group of a Gaia University regional centre in New Zealand. We are looking for; people committed to world change through practice that exemplifies the change they wish to see in the world, and social entrepreneurs passionate about the role of learning in the coming global transition. The primary role of a Regional Organising Group (ROG) is concerned with developing and enacting a whole regional strategy, to energise a region or regions as a learning community, to identify, gather and develop a network of authentic advisers, specialists and mentors who can support new learners in their journey to become regeneration actionists.
There is a vast potential in New Zealand to rapidly advance the vision of NZ as a resilient and sustainable Econation 2020. There are many centres and organisations, groups and individuals working towards this vision that can be energised by an organised community of action learners, mentors and advisors. In particular there is a generation of young people emerging from the enviroschools programme who are looking for alternative education that supports thier ambitions to work in world changing enterprise.
Now is the time to act.
Lets get the ball rolling...begin the conversation.
Arohanui,
Grifen

Hi All

Not sure what I have to offer on a teaching scale, but have done my PDC and keen to start my diploma this year, have done biodynamics and organic hort.  Have co created a community group called Vision Okato which means alot of different things to different people but to me is the start of reconnecting community, especially in our case a small rural village that is beginning to regrow.  Would love to gain knowledge on how to create resilent, self reliant rural communities and if thinking on my village on how to encourage a rich and diverse local economy.  Love this idea, and keen to be involved

Peace

Mel

Hi, this looks like an interesting group - and also one in which members, and your networks, might be interested in this workshop [http://transitionaotearoa.org.nz/events/awakening-the-transition] with Molly Young Brown, ecopsychologist, transition activist, heart and soul campaigner and much more.

Ubtil we understand and can work more skillfully with the elements that effect inner transition, effort in the outer world will be at best slow and, more likely, resisted hugely.

Hi Grifen,
GLOBAL TRANSITION IN ACTION has added your 'Have you ever pondered what the new teaching and learning paradigm might look like' to our collection of new, clever, and higher-order ideas for re-use by other localities globally.
Great idea! It's now posted to the news feeds on approximately 260 websites, including <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/ThePiedSkyper"><b>Twitter</b></a> and <a href="http://www.facebook.com/The.Pied.Skyper"><b>Facebook</b></a>.
You can read more about the intentions of GTIA -- http://transitioninaction.com/forum/topics/global-transition-in-action
Good luck with your course of study! We hope your work serves as a model for locals everywhere.

Hi Grifen and friends,

Been slow to spot this group as I don't use this site as much as I used to . But still very keen to be involved in this where I can. Be good to stay in touch. Best wishes

Grifen,
I love what you've written and yes I'm already intuiting that NZ has a special place in prompting the transition. The vision that I see is around coaching because that's my interest, but a holistic version that includes teaching/learning, mentoring, facilitating, guiding as well. I see a system based on the model of living systems....learning - growing - perfecting - modeling - teaching - composting/passing it on/surrendering. I think this can be an organic fertiliser for what Gaia University is visioning. Like Sue, I also have a background in marketing and I add theology, sociology and management to the mix - I would very much like to help.

Absolutely support this concept. My background is marketing/publishing - nowadays more focused on growing food/sustainable living/spiritual base and photography.
Look forward to developments. Kia kaha.

Ella Linwood said... "It would be great to have some way of being notified by email when someone adds something to the discussion as that would help a lot to keep some flow going. I am told that there is but I don’t know how to find that feature- if anyone could tell the group how to do that please would you. "

Ella, COMMENTS do not have automatic notifications, but DISCUSSIONS do. At the bottom of a Discussion there is an opportunity to FOLLOW or STOP FOLLOWING the Discussion. Every new response to a Discussion send you an email that there is a new entry. I've just started a GENERAL DISCUSSION above. Talk to each other there, not here in COMMENTS.

Grifen and Cath, you have articulated a wonderful vision and I would be very happy to work to help materialise this. I think that this forum will help to co-ordinate our efforts and enable the emergence of something that's both sustainable and transformative. My interest is in helping people live sustainable lives that integrate spiritual and secular perspectives.

Kia ora everyone
I am very interested in participating in this project. I have an academic background around sustainable development lecturing and researching for 6 years at University level. I am very much into gardening, weaving, eco-design, architecture, and economics and helped with developing the environmental management and economics courses for Waikato University and TWOA.

My current interests are around sustainable technologies especially weaving which I think is a wholistic lifeskill that is used in all aspects of life. Architecture, landscaping, furniture, clothing, vessels, boats, mats, cots, caskets, etc all can use weaving techniques and weaving construction. Sustainable harvesting, recycling, culture, and ecology are also very important to weavers as they see themselves as kaitiaki guardians.

I am also interested in sustainable assisted technologies for people with disability or elderly.

Gaia and ecoversity sounds prettying interesting.

Looking forward to the project.
Cath

Dear Grifen and Richards

A Gaia University in NZ, training and supporting local 'activists' sounds like lovely music in my ears. I got quite some experience in this field.

Been in NZ for a bit more than a year and can see a great potential in a 'local GU'.

Would be interested in discussing this further
