From oil dependence to local resilience

I have had a little issue, that anoyed some of my friends enough for them to ring me up and complain.
I once created an event, electric bike test ride. I put some email addresses in for invitees, some of my friends. The emails went out to them automatically from the website. All good so far. The event came and went, and the event dissapeard from the website.
..then after a few weeks, the ning starts sending out invites to the event again, everyday to the people on the invite list. An expired event.
I managed to track down the event through mypage and delete it. hopefully this stops the emails going out. Just a warning, as we dont want to become spammers.

I just got an email myself today from a friend who complained about having received 6 invitations. I agree that the invitation to events feature is not fully mature. There is no way of inviting one's friends on ning - one has to send an external email. This email turns out to be an invitation not only to the event but also to the site. Confusing for those who are already signed up. Probably better to send an email to a specific group (each group also acts like an email list) with a link to the newly created event.
Old Policy. We've changed policy on re-invites. All invites are currently stored in the system and the system allows re-invites. It used to be that we periodically (every 3-4 weeks) re-sent invitations, going back to the beginning of the site. This caused people to receive multiple invitations. And explains receiving invitations to events that had passed.

New Policy. Invites will be saved for one week only. Invitees will receive one reminder at the end of that week. They will then be deleted from the queue. If an individual wants to invite another to the site or to an event, they will use INVITE and re-issue the invitations themselves.
