From oil dependence to local resilience

Well the first meeting attracted ten, the second 21 and the third, with minimal publicity brought in 30 people. Thanks to Elisa and Ant for sticking up notices in so many shops and to Caleb and Pataka from the Wananga for publicising this. The film was The Power of Community, how Cuba dealt with peak oil. Discussion afterwards in groups brought up many issues. We now have several people assigned to address certain issues and hope to get a lot of subcommittees. One of food resilience needs an interim coordinator as Ant goes back to Canada for a month or two. Housing is Alys Delft, Economics and local currencies is Deirdre, transport is Nick, health is Elisa and Community Building is Jenny.

We are currently updating our mailing list so that everyone gets an email. We also need a way to get the messages to those who don't have emails but just a mobile or landline number.

Our steering committee meets every Thursday evening at 7.30. This time it is at Nick's place 7 Atmore Avenue. The meetings are brief, one hour! So volunteer if you like. The world is full of leaders.

Not sure where or when the next meeting is but we might be outgrowing the Supper Room at the Memorial Hall. We will see.
