Hola NZ. Has anyon talked to Brendan Hoare about the current status of the Econation movement in NZ? I understand Brendan is moving on from Unitec and fully comitted to the original vision. Be good to get it from the horses mouth. Gracias, Grifen

Florian - I liked your July and August posts - did you present at Eco-Show and what's been the upshot? Good conversation to keep alive. Peace. Glen

Run it as a parallel nation rather than trying to match our precious energy against the great inertia that is rural/urban NZ

Hey Dude.....been meaning to join up for a while now.....Do you reckon its worth running an openspace workshop on this one at the Ecoshow?

I have pasted posts form teh TTNZ google group to give you an insight into what other thought about it.

Good idea!
Shall we launch it at Ecoshow 2008 in October?
A great platform to challenge councils and communities around the country- like the Nuclear -free and GE-free declarations of earlier times we can embrace "Transition Nation NZ 2020. " We can be "free" not free of something!
GE free created a map, and as districts got on board, then a spot appeared on the map- gradually the map filled up all over the place.
Could be lots of fun!

TO start off the discussion, since I opened this group, I will repeat what I've wrtitten in the tt google group.

I had the idea while getting my daughter to sleep.
Why not declare NZ transition nation 2020.

Goals for that could be:

All towns or regions over 10.000 in population are a transition towns/regions and either have an energy decent plan or are working on it.

Puplic transport is the main transport for the masses in all larger towns.

Regionalised energy production

Train network for overland transport.

CSA network established and running. 95% of all foods produced in NZ

Organic food production is mainstream.

Central Government working on Energy Descent Plan.

There are a lot more things that could go in here, but would like to hear what you think.

I had a comment that TT is a more local thing, but I think that networking with other tt's is already a national undertaking. If the majority of towns in NZ are TTs the trend is already given.
I am not talking about forming a party behind which TT thinkers can gather, but maybe more like a lobby group, with shared interests and goals.

Anyway.

Fire away, please
