New Zealand Transition Initiatives Social Network

From oil dependence to local resilience

It feels imperative that we share the news of what is happening in our local transition initiative, with all the other transition communities. This is how we learn where to focus our energy, get inspired by what others are doing, and learn from each other.

There are probably lots of ways of doing this, but here are a few. It is a delight when transition communities post their news like this.

  • Offer "Tidbits" of news here and/or on the NZTT Google group. In the Google group you might start an email, give it the subject line of "Tidbits: [your town name]" and in the message list some one liners or a short paragraph describing some activity and since the last time you posted a "Tidbits" message. Here you might find the Tidbit dicussion and add a post to it, and you might post it in a group if your transition initiative has one here.
  • Post information on your towns page on the Wiki. This is an ongoing record of what has been achieved and where the focus is currently. Be sure to include contact details for the key people in your transition community. If you need help editing the Wiki pages, check out the links under "How to use this Wiki" in the Wiki sidebar, or see the simple Wiki tutorial that Rimu put together.

Hi James. I am thinking it must be frustrating for you meanwhile but why don't we also try a bit more to get the best out of the ning site and then it will be clearer how the ning complements the wiki and the google group? And we also have to be open to completely new suggestions. For instance if the "Alerting the group to some recent news" function was transferred to a forum or a group in the ning it would keep a permanent record of it all. The google group flashes past and it's harder to retrieve. Meanwhile I will post something on what is happening in Otaki for all on this site and also on the wiki, now that I have learnt how to work it.
I'd like to help share information regarding Dunedin, once we're up and running. I'm working on gathering people together at the moment. Once we have a core group and the responsibilities are shared (i.e. we have some resilience) I'll be happy to help in this regard.

Cheers,

Leanne.
