In the context of Transition Towns my interests / passions are:
A deepening soul-felt belief that individual strategies for self-sufficiency will not be sufficient to deal with the coming challenges - that deepening community networks, vibrancy and ultimately resilience is our future. The future is full of possibility to mitigate some of the 'miscalculations' in past social, economic, political and environmental planning. We have the resources - we must foster the will...to create something wonderful!!
What are you happy to share about yourself:
Environmental Studies student at Te Whare wananga o Awanuiarangi (Whakatane)...Mother of two adult children - my daughter living on the Northern Beaches of Sydney where I lived for 16 years - my son at home with his mum. Born in Whakatane, I have returned to my home district quite recently after having a fantastic life in OZ and then a couple of wonderful years travelling - but I could not ignore the calling any more... I have a degree in Media and Cultural Studies - many wonderful memories - many dreams and hopes and a great love of and faith in, humanity...I love New Zealand and feel honoured to have grown up in this natural environment and with our tangata whenua - we are so richly blessed here. Love the networking with like minds - love potential - even if at times my Aquarian airy-ness renders me an idealist and dreamer...what are we if not for our dreams? Oh...I am also a very keen gardener...not a very good gardener - but very keen...but just revelling in the whole learning curve...and the space...and the health...
Where do you live (City or Town):
Ohope (Whakatane)

Hey James! Just managed to erase the last message I typed after briefly displaying it...Yes studied Media in Sydney...confirmed the cynic in me - But to be fair my focus was film and in particular the documentary genre - mostly the theory of. But also studied sociology, anthropology, history, philosophy, cultural studies all the way through and human geography first year. Not sure I would be of much help but then constantly surprised these days at what we take for granted about what we know or have experience in/with.
Of course feel free to call - weekends are a tad pot-luck I am afraid - I am usually here - and usually not...if that can make sense. Week nights are best as I have classes each morning - but have answering machine - so no drama - will return your call. (07)3124348
ps do you realise what you said in your last sentence...about wanting to 'serve the media well'? Funny language isn't it...what is "the media" that we personify it? Forgive me...
Sorry it has taken a while to get back to you Deirdre! Actually this picture (which is a stand-in for me as I need to take a recent photo of myself) is a genuine, unadulterated photo taken down at the Whakatane Heads (the mouth of the Whakatane River) It was evening and the sunset has bought out all the hues and tones of the rocks (Ignimbrite I think from Matahina Dam). The 'rock' in the background has a statue of a lady on it...and is very iconic of our local area...so I guess I thought it appropriate for a stand-in picture...
Welcome to you too!!! I do hope I can find the time to dedicate to staying up to date on this network.
