Christchurch Transition Forum

The Christchurch Transition Forum is for everyone in the Canterbury area who is interested in Transition Towns and/or is member of a local initiative. We meet about every two months for a forum where we can network and exchange information in person.

Other
In the context of Transition Towns my interests / passions are:
Medieval village design, free health and education, sustainable housing, organic gardening, cycling & horses for transport, and Permaculture.
What are you happy to share about yourself:
I was born and raised in Elsmere, a suburb near Albany, New York in the USA. My brothers and I had lots of exposure to woods, streams and mountains near our home and during holidays in the Adirondack and Catskill Mountain ranges. After graduating from Stephens Collage in Columbia, Missouri, I started travelling, first to California and then the World. I've travelled to 54 countries, supported by doing portraits and working on container ships. I immigrated to New Zealand in 1985, and started developing property while raising two children as a single mother. I bought a large house in the Christchurch City Centre in 2005, which I've set up as a Bed & Breakfast called Slingerland Green Stay. We've put in compost bins, a glasshouse, solar hot water heating, and have planted fruit trees, herbs, vegies and edible flowers in every available space.
Where do you live (City or Town):

Hi Catherine! Thanks for dropping by at our meeting today. Hope your kids were not too bored! What are your ideas for a inner-city transition community?
