Using an interactive grid means you dont need half the gear including batteries to set up your own alternative/solar power, & then if your away a day or something, the power… Continue

Hiya Gawain, great to have you in the team and thanks for all your great energy you contributed last night. I was very impressed to get the minutes back so quickly. Just looking at the Whanganui group and they have an office space for general tt use and wondered if the space in Kamo could be something similar for us? I'm in town on Tuesday, so I can pop in myself and have a look then. From the Whanganui group "Our Sustainable Living Centre at 38 Taupo Quay is providing a space where anyone can come in and use desks, computers, broadband, whiteboards, wall space and our communication systems to put there Transition Plans into action with other members of the community. The 600 sq m centre is offering a hub for our local complimentary currency - River Dollars, a show room for energy and food garden systems and a workshop for our Green Bike Scheme (based on the successful Palmerston Nth model)"

Hi ya, hopefully see you tonight, there are a few ways..examples I've seen of Solar heating without solar panels to heat water was at the Kaiwaka Eco village..a collaegue of mind her name is Heidland and her partner put in a sheet that heats water..they built there whole house for under 70K and have never been connected to the grid or used diesal..her partner is going to write some eco house design papers..the best commercial fellow I know is a guy called Pier, AA Solar..but his rates including labour are still high at 7K per solar kilowatt, some councils offer rebates, then ECO innovations based in Hawera offer good deals for there Wind turbines..There are cheaper ways..including the "Polytech course" but that's until next year..I'll have to have a chat

Best Regards

HI Gawain, any advice? We're building a new home on a tight budget, were looking at pellet fires and solar panels but panels for water heating were so expensive. The pellet fire itself is a huge expense. Any advice - government help or cheaper panels? Local panel suppleir is solar hart. Cheers, Tonya

The website is Eco Innovations. co.nz and they produce a self built micro hydro using parts from F&P Smart Drive washing machines which can be stripped at the tip in we have good people to help. Perhaps they could send a tutor up here instead of everyone going to Taranaki for the tuition.
