Hi Lynda, I assume you're offering herb seed for sale?  If so, since your range would focus on herbs, and mine on vegetables and flowers, perhaps we could look at how we can promote each other's range.  Let’s skype to…

The integration of Time Banking with resilience initiatives

LOCAL MONEY, the latest book in the Transition Towns series, includes a sidebar about the Lyttelton Time Bank. Selected excerpt: “The time bank is a wonderful tool for building strong community links.  It deals with the trading of services, and future plans include a ‘Genuine Wealth System’ – an interest-free loan/saving scheme.  Further down the track will be a swipe card, and a link between energy production and complementary currencies” Read in the attached about the integration of Time…See More

LOCAL MONEY for the Transition movement

Thumbnail
Peter North’s Local Money is the latest addition to the Transition Towns series.  Introduced by Rob Hopkins, this book is a timely tool to give Transition ‘money’ groups “the best possible start to save them reinventing too many wheels”.  He notes that the current economy has little built in resilience, and that the whole system is highly oil-vulnerable.  “Price volatility, or worse still, actual shortages are things we are hugely unprepared for and could be devastating”.How to make it happen…See More

Hi Helen, I'm home for the rest of the day, let me know what time suits and I'll make sure I'm logged in. Yes, I've been meaning to get in touch too.

[Quote]We’ve also received enquiries re video conferencing which I understand presents something of a challenge. Do you have skills in that area, or know of others who do? We’re waiting to hear from Laurence as to whether to pursue the idea, or not.

Hi Helen,I lost my account details/and gmail so it took me a month to reply.

First il just say that I think its really important for people to discuss things afterwards and stay connected,to keep up the momentum. I know its easy for people to get disconnected after a conference.

A central dedicated email / website helps this.

Yes I have skills in that area - The question is,of scale. Aslong as an internet connection is available nearby, and the number of people viewing video is few its possible-the issue isnt software or computers - it is the fact that domestic broadband in NZ is very weak UPstream, which is what you need for several video connections.

Audio + MSN/SKYPE/ICQ/AIM for typing messages/asking questions is a a whole lot easier and could support several users - eg a group of people in the 4 main centres easily.

It sounds like theres some one locally going to it from the green dollars here so thats good.

Kia ora Helen
I would like to speak with you about holding this currency conference in a Maori marae setting. I cannot attend the one in Wanganui yet see its vital importance. Now Finn McKinsey and the Permaculture group are holding their annual convention at a Maori marae in Te Teko, near Whakatane over QB weekend. Maybe we could do something with currency there. We have to sow and grow the concept.

I just noticed you replied to me already!

Thanks Helen il consider that.

Ive looked at LE and noticed the pdf flyer so I know all the details of the event. The article on ning didnt seem to show this pdf.

I'll reply to your question re taping the conference, as Laurence is away from the office and will be on the move until 7th March. At this stage I don't think he plans to tape the conference. However, the intention is, post conference, to create hard copy & DVD reflecting the shared wisdom so that participants have the necessary information to implement currency systems in their respective locales.
How about finding someone from your community able to attend the conference that would be willing to share what he/she has learnt and work with you to put theory into practice?
Regardless, I’d encourage you to access books etc on the money system & complementary currencies.
See some of these, including Tom Greco’s ‘Money’ and Deirdre Kent’s Healthy Money, Healthy Planet are listed at special prices at http://le.org.nz/tiki-index.php?page=Resources

Hi Helen. re: community currencies conference,I think for every one person attending theres probably two to three who would like to but cant.

id like to be involved in the recording of this event, as I have an interest in A/V and all things computers and am interested in CCs.

Wanganui isnt far from me too. Is there a ticket cost? Is it a one day event? Perhaps I didnt read it correctly.?

Hi Helen,

Unfortunately it looks like i won't be able to make it to the conference.

I'm attending a course down in the south island for a week earlier in April. To get to the CCconference I would only be home a couple days before i would have to head off again which would put a bit of pressure on the old work/family balancing act.

Its a shame really as I would very much like to be there but these two events fell just too close together to make it manageable.

Cheers
Richard

Hi Helen,

Had to take a break from the google group. I don't see the point of the total immersion into gloom and doom and powerlessness that seems to be an underlying thread at the moment.. Its not what the idea of transition is about to me.

Be happy to talk with you. i am usually around my computer about 9:00am if you want to chat. my skype name is ecoassist.

Cheers
Richard

Thanks Blair.
A few weeks ago Mike Kelly, one of our Wairarapa TT team, was asked at short notice to fill in as a speaker for a faith-based group in Fielding. He presented on TT and wants to give locals a contact person, so I suggested you.

The idea of spending some time at home with you and Jacqui sounds great! Can't see any reason why both of you - and Josh - shouldn't look in on the meeting.

Look forward to catching up in Sept.
