From my Open Future Blog:Talking about a future "vision" for Christchurch:http://www.reimaginechristchurch.org.nz/forums/105253-reimagine-christchurchWe can build a community that is much more connected. People need to join more groups, to network more effectively, to learn from each other. In open forums we need to be able to name issues of concern and find allies and seek better ways of doing things in…See More

Community Need for Reflection amd Discussion

Often we don't quite know what we are feeling until someone else expresses it clearly for us.  That's why we need many and diverse discussions about the earthquake. For that purpose I've put a lot of work into creating twenty-five community based email forums across Christchurch. You can join you local forum here:http://www.streetgroups.co.nz/christchurchforums.html I've also been trying to think deeply about what Christchurch…See More

How can transition thinking can contribute to rebuilding plans in Christchurch? By posting ideas, big and small, by supporting and organising action and by letting others know about information and community response forums as we hear about them.

Thanks Rex for the links to the discussion on the Intersect Forum which I was not aware of.  There is in fact quite a bit happening, but still involving far too few people, so the more active groups there are the better.  It will take a…

In the end communication is about linking people. and linking with people face-to-face is the most direct and meaningful form of that. So I also agree that street groups - with bbqs and standing round chatting over the fence and helping each other -…

Hi John I suspect that online particularly doesn't work at times of crisis because with no power and no internet one cannot log on and it is not the first thing that people think of doing.  At the same time I think that people at grass…

I found out about Transition Towns...
When I was browsing the net
In the context of Transition Towns my interests / passions are:
New Zealanders are NOT well connected to each other online. One of my passions has been to change that. This is the TIME of our own ENLIGHTENMENT, but each of us needs to make that happen for ourselves. You create a "hothouse" for learning and innovation and personal growth by connecting to other people.
What are you happy to share about yourself:
Do a Google search: "John Stephen Veitch"
I'm strongly involved with the Four Years.Go. campaign and also working on creating local street groups. See the Open Future web site.

HI John - I'm trying to put together the next newsletter for SOC - we are having a range of contributions linked to earthquake / recovery / resilience etc. Would you like to do a peice on your street groups idea - the way that connected communities are more resilient and that SG is one modern way to improve community connectedness. I'm looking for no more than a page as I'll need to include it with various other contributions. If you are keen - send me something to jrjandm@callsouth.net.nz within the next few days. Many thanks

Hi John, thanks. I have been looking at your "street groups" and 4YG info this evening. Hopefully we'll catch up tomorrow. Have you tried ctnews.org.nz? It's the site that christoph & I have been working on to help with local connectivity. Your thoughts would be welcomed.

Cheers
