Transition Social Network Communications Using Skype

Skype is the official phone and conference calling tool for our social networks.
  • Install Skype -- Free calls and conference calls for skype-to-skype users. Set up LSquiresSkype as a Contact and call me with questions about Transition. I'll help you set up conference calls with your initiators, friends, family, committees, workgroups and virtual special interest groups. Communication is my passion and my contribution to Transitioners.
  • Skype calls to landlines and cell phones -- Need to call non-Skype phones? Set up a pre-paid account. Call me if you have questions how pre-paids differ from skype-to-skype free accounts. Very handy when I was 4 months in India last year and called clients back in the U.S. at 2.1 cents a minute. This is how Skype can afford to give free service to skype-to-skype users. Skype me at LSquiresSkype if you have further questions.

Dear Les,
I am telling everybody I meet in this district, about the sites for Opotiki and Whakatane Transition Towns - with the excellent films: the one about one year's progress of Transition Towns in Aotearoa/New Zealand and the films with Rob Hopkins.
I am sending the links to many people too. There is very much interest.
In the long interview with Rob Hopkins, Rob remarked that we are addicted to our cars.
And that we need to cure ourselves of our cars - as we manage to cure our other addictions.
I have been thinking about that and I'm sure it is not an addiction. I think our motor cars have become extensions to our personalities. They have become a part of us, as much as a artificial limb becomes part of us. Looking at it like this, does change how we need to go about doing what needs to be done to cope with the mammoth problem of our motor car takeover!
Regards,
Maggie Barrett

Dear Les,
Please tell Deidre too, I am busy networking, informing people about the Transition Town Movement. I am now sending the link for the Whakatane Transition Town, with the link for the excellent video that is on the Whakatane site. It would be great if our town of Kawerau, which is a mega industrial town (we have an enormous pulp and paper mill, plus other large industries here) becomes a transition town and that is the aim!

Maggie Barrett

Dear Les,
I made a mistake regarding the graph in Rob Hopkins book. It was 'Energy Return on Energy Invested', not global warming problems. And I have found out what I needed to know on the Internet! I am sending local people here, the links for Transition Towns and for the Opotiki Transition Town in particular. Opotiki is going ahead very quickly.
Regards,
Maggie Barrett

Dear Les,
Thank you. It will be quite a few months before I can arrange to have Skype and a digital camera too. Because of certain financial commitments. But I will put them on my list of things to do and they will eventually get done! You will know of Ted Trainer. I think of him as the father of the Transition Town Movement. He writes so well and presents his ideas so clearly. I send his website link, as well as yours for the Transition Town Network, to people all the time now. Doing that is my main focus. Also, in Rob Hopkins book: 'The Transition Handbook', on Page 52 is: 'Figure 11, The Carbon footprints for the same energy sources... Credit : The Ecologist Magazine'. I am interested to know where this graph came from, which Ecologist magazine, date/year, because i have not been able to find out in the Ecologist Archive on its Website or in any of my own magazines. I would like to be able to read the article that goes with the graph, as I'm interested in heat pumps and their maintenance. And if they are a problem for global warming if they are not properly maintained.
So many people are buying heat pumps, I have one too and they are great! But i know many people don't worry about maintaining them properly. If ever you are speaking with Rob Hopkins, would you ask him for me? Many thanks! Best Wishes, Maggie Barrett

Dear Les,
I hope all is well with you. Thank you for your message some time ago.
I cannot, at this stage, provide a photograph for my page, as I do not
have a digital camera. Would you please let me know if a special attachment
is necessary in order to have Skype?
Thanks.

Best Wishes,
Maggie Barrett
