Profile Information

I found out about Transition Towns...
From a friend who told me
In the context of Transition Towns my interests / passions are:
Hopefully the town I live in, Ranui, will become a Transition Town soon. I am concerned about self-sufficiency during the oil crisis, and how climate change is going to affect the infrastructure of my country.
What are you happy to share about yourself:
I am getting a Post Graduate Diploma of Science in Environmental Management at Auckland University. I am what I like to call an "armchair radical," something I hope will change with my involvement in Transition Town Ranui. I am a spiritual and political person, and I care deeply about social justice and humanity in general.
Where do you live (City or Town):
Ranui

The Infinite Ramblings of a Self-Righteous Do-Gooder

Hello, and welcome to Sitakali's Infinite Ramblings.

I am an agnostic, eclectic pagan who hopes to do as much as possible to help the people and creatures of this Earth in one lifetime.

I believe that there are several ways of going about this, but they must be related to social, economic, and environmental justice. This justice would be brought about by equitable power and resource distribution, as well as emotional and psychological well-being.

First, I will… Continue

Hola Sitakali's, welcome to gaia university group. I am very interested to hear your thoughts about the role of tertiary education in the post industrial revolution and about the role of gaia university. In response to Stacy´s comments below. GU is an international body of regenerative educators and designers etc working on projects all around the planet, and offering bachelor master and soon doctoral degrees. We are a learning community actively mobilising and supporting world changing projects through the action learning methodology, mentoring etc. With my team in Chile we are creating a campus here. I intend to be back in aotearoa next year to push plans forward for a ca mpus in nz.. In the meantime I am trying to gather interest through this site and many others. I look forward to hearing from you, Gracias, Grifen

Yeah... I don't actually know what that is, I think it is just a collection of people who are thinking about the academic aspects of transition. OK, I just read the thingy, looks like they are forming a group who are looking at creating a university for sustainability. That sounds cool. I don't remember that from when I joined it...

Hey,

well, I'm at University of Canterbury. I don't know anything about Gaia University (I didn't even know it was a physical thing), unfortunately... Is it overseas somewhere?

I have gone through a lot of thinking to try and work out what I will actually be doing for my study, but am kind of getting it nailed down now as a tool to vision an existing community in a sustainable manner. Basically taking an existing community and then applying the requirement of sustainability to its physical infrastructure, from a fundamental point of view (not just slightly reducing impacts or increasing efficiency). So I won't actually be adding to Transition Towns literature, because I don't think it is the kind of thing that is (in itself) scientific, but hopefully the results will be useful to people creating their future visions as part of the transition town...

Hey! How are you going up there?
Remembered what you were saying (when I was staying at Earthsong, ages ago!) about no transitions towns technical literature, I think...
Well, I started my PhD a few weeks ago, so I'm doing a bit of reading at the moment, and turns out there isn't any; hopefully I'll end up writing some.
Cheers.
p.s. check out my song! I uploaded it to my page.

Hi there

Good to see that there are some people in Ranui working on setting up a TT group. Maybe you should go by the RAP office and talk to Emma.

All the best

Tomas
