New Zealand Transition Initiatives Social Network

From oil dependence to local resilience

I just noticed that I haven't posted a blog post for almost two months. Well, I guess I have just been too busy.

Our local group, the Transition Initiative St Albans, has grown in the meantime from 3 people meeting to about 10 or more that are involved. We had a public meeting MP's and Community Board members attending. As a follow up we have created at least three subgroups: food security, walking and events. All of them have been busily progressing the cause in the meantime. The Transition Initiative also got mentioned in the local print media and I'm quite surprised (positively!) how many people see the need for this to happen now.

I have been approached by several people who are interested in seeing (or showing) the 'Power of Community' DVD. I've had someone take a copy of it to PNG!

Last Friday we met with a group of grade 7 students from a local school who want to create an edible garden! Great!

Hopefully I will get around to posting some more detailed notes on our group site soon!

And yes, almost forgot: the 1st Christchurch Transition Forum was also a success - more than 20 people from as many different organisations and locations attended - and the next one is already scheduled. Here, too, will hopefully post some report very soon!
